Designed & Animated 3D Characters for VR

The SSIVR Research Lab tasked me to design UI pop-up instructional guides, animate 3D character avatars, and produce news segment videos for a social psychology study examining user interaction in virtual environments across race and gender conditions.
The Solution
-
Utilized 3D creation tools including "Character Creator" to design avatars and "iClone" to animate them.
-
Incorporated contemporary video game technologies as inspiration to inform visual and interaction design decisions.
-
Designed UI pop-up instructional guides using "Figma", and produced news segments using "Adobe Premiere Pro" and "CapCut".

A Quick Walk-through of the simulation
In the video, the simulation begins with the user navigating a bookstore to adjust to the VR environment, then walks to a dorm to meet characters whose appearance varies by randomly assigned condition (male/female or white/Black skin). As the user interacts with the animated avatar, they watch new segments and commercials.
